Floor Hockey Hilarity!

My floor-hockey game didn't go too well today. We lost 7-4 and it was a tough game. The most hilarious part though was when I had my stick wrapped around this guy who was trying to get by. I was trying to block his pass. He threw my stick upwards and I didn't have any control of it but was still able to hold onto it, the stick went up and then down onto his head. I could really say much he did it to himself! Too funny! I came off but after the game, it was all in good sport. LOLz!

Do Something Hard Everyday

Doing something hard everyday only makes you stronger, in body, mind and soul. I practice Yoga and I try to do it every morning. Even when I'm tired, groggy, woke up on the wrong side of the bed, for some reason this ritual coupled with a cup of tea really rejuvenates my sense of well being. If anything, it gives me a good workout, a boost of hydration and sometimes caffeine.

I'll share a completed dream and a future dream with you. This year, I made it to Peru. One of the best trips I've had! Love Ceviche and went with some awesome people (thanks for putting up with me...). My next dream is to visit the land of my heritage, Vietnam. I'd also like to at some point go on a pilgrimage to India, and swing through Thailand for a gusto-fest.

Caught at Lucky Moose

I witnessed the saddest sight at the Lucky Moose supermarket. An older lady who'd been caught red-handed with some unpaid goods was being held in what seemed like vice-grips by two ladies who seemed to be the store-keepers. The older lady cried and cried and apologized profusely but the ladies yelled and screamed at the the older lady and the crowd, telling everyone the cost of theft. A policeman showed up and took the lot into a side room as the older lady scared and crying tried repeatedly to get up. It was the saddest thing I've seen in a long time. It made me sad for our society. Food should be free. We should be sharing and growing food side-by-side but everything has a price tag.

Spicy Pumpkin Cheesecake

I've been meaning to make a cheesecake and Alvaro's break time surprise of some Pumpkin Cheesecake has spurred me to attempt to make a Spicy Pumpkin Cheesecake. I envision a swirl of spicy 'mayan' hot chocolate swirled into a pumpkin cheesecake base. Perhaps with a topping of chocolate pieces, crusted with a dusting of sea salt. Yummy!

Lava Cake and Roasted Garlic & Chives Mashed Potatoes

My saturday consisted of a lot of cooking and baking! I decided to make roasted garlic & chives mashed potatoes and the oh-so-riche chocolate lava cake was delicious! Full of sugar but tasty!

Yesterday had a lot of dessert-making. My sister and I made chocolate soufflés and berry trifle. Nyum nyum! We also got a chance to finally test out my condo pool facilities, it was the most relaxing evar! One word - sauna! Then off to family dinner!

Today... plans for dinner. Not sure yet but I'll figure it out.

The Recycled Number Conundrum

So I text a friend about an email they had sent me and it turns out the person responding is not who I thought it was. Oh! It's a wrong number I figured or a serious case of the phone-book glitch which prompted me to go on a cloud sync'ing rampage of my phone with the calendars and address book. No longer would I be plagued with miss-sync'ed numbers or addresses or events! So after deleting the old number and spending a good 3 hours, I thought I was set.

I got the friend's number off another friend and tried the text again. Same sort of reply. I was beginning to think this was a joke! After a few text back and forth's, I then tell my number supplying friend that he's got the wrong number too! I begin to suspect a case of the mix-up blues.

I get a text from wrong number dude, saying to call. I call to figure this thing out. Maybe it's another friend of my number supplier. Nope, how very wrong. This person didn't know anyone I knew at all! I tell my number supplier that it's a wrong number and he calls me saying that he had forgotten about the number change. Our friend doesn't have a cell phone anymore and that the number probably got recycled. Oh! That makes sense! A recycled number, so case closed.

A few minutes later I get this:

"Sorry I thought I knew u aswell, oh well if u want to get to know let me know"

Ahahaha! I get a pick up via a mistaken number that had me puzzled for two days! What a recycled number conundrum.

Re-visiting Traditional Styles

One of my dreams would be to spend a lengthy period of time learning and documenting the process of producing items using traditional methods. Some send me to an old lodge/farm!

Whip Core Plaiting

This is the core that I will be plaiting my whip around. White Nylon.

In my search for different macrame styles, I came across this style of plaiting. In my search I had also looked for plait styles for the hair, as they are really similar. I have a photo-date for hair plaiting coming up!

Porcelain Spoons

Spoons. Porcelain spoons. These are the spoons that seem to have been a major theme in my life for the past 3 days. The 1st encounter was with the spoons that held delicious shrimp ceviche with a liberal dousing of fish sauce. It was tasty, a little pungent but that's what it was. Perhaps it's the summery season returning, that's bringing back this seeming trend of finger food. Tapas... I wonder when I'll start sampling those again.

The second sighting was while I perused the LCBO's Early Summer 2010 issue of Food & Drink. Little spoons filled with bite-sized morsels of food, looking like it's got flavour explosion. I'm getting hungry... long slender toothpicks also skewer other delectables in this issue's pages.

My hunt for some spoons at home led me to find my gigantic spoon rest. It's the size of my palm. If only they served morsels in spoons like these! (Spoon featured in picture.)

24 Days To Peru

There are 24 days left before we embark on our journey to Peru. There is so much to do before then, like getting all of our gear together and making sure what we've broken in our backpacking shoes. I'm psyched and pumped! On top of that, work closes for two days before our trip because of the G20 Summit, gives me time to run around and get ready. The countdown begins...

Finals 8-1, 10th Straight Winning Championships!

We were 2 minutes away from a shut-out but the player made his way in with the ball on the right side of our goal, passed it through the two defense and the other forward shot the ball into our goal.
We lined up for the last minute and the whistle blows. We just won our 10th straight floor-hockey championships!

We're now celebrating with an early for the weather BBQ. Go Team! Too Legit to Quit, neon clad players, win the first championships of 2010. We gear up for another season next week. Way to go team!

Exam a Sink-hole

That was the most trying exam I've ever had! I kept drawing blanks! Case-studies... what the heck! Mid-term was good... But this was torture! I was there until the end. The day had started out so well... gonna go drown out the disappointment with a beer, KFC, and a good movie. It would also celebrate the end of my classes until September. One more class and the certificate is finito! Whee!

Day #1 after move into the New Place!

Woke up to all our stuff (we've got tonnes) piled into the living room.

Thanks a bunch to (Alphabetical Order): Alex, Annie, Caitlin, Jeff, Jeff, Juan Carlos, Julie, Karina, Marlene, Ryan, and Stan.

We could not have done it without all of you... SERIOUSLY... Especially with all the crap I had! I'm impressed with the amount that fit into my studio bachelor. There were definitely some jibes about being on TLC's "Hoarders" reality TV show. (I don't want to be, I promise to get rid of as much as possible!)

Yesterday was my last day at the old apartment and it's quite tiny empty! I let the new guy move in early, grabbed the last few things... especially my fridge stuff. (Yes Sweetie, the lemon filled ice cube trays... And my pickled caesar toppings :D)

Everyone was super helpful and did so much, it was immensely appreciated! Will keep you updated on the paring down and painting progress!

Seller is a Jerk!

Painting and sanding is under way. Professional cleaners are coming in tomorrow to clean the kitchen, courtesy of our lovely real estate agent - early housewarming present! Very much appreciated!

News update, seller has decided that because he doesn't have a storage locker at his new place, he's going to keep all his crap (which fills the WHOLE locker, floor to ceiling) in our locker until he saw fit to remove it. Trespasser, unspeakable names, and... BULLY!

Thank you to the management for being ultra helpful!

Will see how the rest of this goes. Spending time removing painting tragedies and decor mishaps like these...
